Backlinks

Referring domains, links, anchors, new and lost links, re-checks and export.

Backlinks works on the website picked in the header switcher. Open Dashboard → Backlinks to see who links to it. The data comes from our monthly web crawl data and is updated once a month; the page says which month it was last updated from.

Where the numbers come from

  • Referring domains come from the web's domain-level link graph, built from the last three monthly crawls. They're the most complete part of the data.
  • Individual backlinks (linking page, anchor text, rel and target page) come from the pages of those referring domains in the latest crawl. For large sites we read a sample, starting with the home page and pages about partners, resources and links, so some links on deep pages may be missing.
  • Authority (0–100) is based on the domain's harmonic-centrality rank in the link graph: how close it is to every other site. Higher is better connected. It's our own measure.
  • No crawl covers the whole web. Sites that block crawlers, pages behind logins and very new pages won't appear.

New and lost

After each monthly update, a domain is new if it wasn't linking before, and lost if it no longer appears in the link graph. A link is lost when we re-read its page and it's gone, when its domain is lost, or when a live re-check can't find it. You get a notification listing new and lost referring domains (not on the first update).

Filters and export

Search linking pages and domains, filter by follow, nofollow, sponsored or ugc, new or lost, anchor text and target page, and sort any column. Click an anchor or a top page to filter by it. CSV export (Growth and above) downloads the table with your current filters.

Live re-checks

Re-check a link (or a whole page of links) and we load the linking page live, confirm the link is there and update its anchor and rel, or mark it lost. We also re-check the oldest links automatically every hour, using up to half of your daily allowance.

  • Referring domains and backlinks kept per website: Starter 500, Growth 2,500, Scale 10,000, Pro 25,000, Business 100,000, Enterprise 500,000.
  • Live re-checks per website per day (UK time): 10, 50, 200, 500, 2,000, 10,000.
